BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
Given
Iranian Americans’ large, successful, and multigenerational
presence in the United States, it is time for the community to
organize and participate actively in shaping America’s future,
in both the domestic and international arenas.
Toward that
end, on March 9, 2004, the Iranian American Democrats of Los
Angeles (IADLA) received its charter from the Los Angeles
County Democratic Party. An affiliate of the Democratic Party
without ties to any other organization, IADLA is a grassroots
organization whose membership is open to everyone regardless
of religious beliefs, place of birth, gender, ethnicity, race,
or sexual orientation. Its purpose is to serve as an arena
through which its members can discuss and act on their common
interests.
Specifically, IADLA will pursue the following objectives:

Create and maintain an
effective voice for Iranian Americans in local, state, and
federal politics.

B. |
Inform Iranian Americans of
the Democratic Party’s political platform and positions
and encourage them to join the Party and register to vote.

C. |
Raise awareness among Iranian
Americans regarding legislation of specific relevance to
our community through seminars, speakers, website
information, and articles.

D. |
Identify, encourage, and
support qualified Iranian Americans to seek elected office
at the local, state, and national levels.
|
|
E. |
Encourage the establishment of
Iranian American Democratic organizations throughout the
United States.
|
|
F. |
Establish nationwide dialogue
with all other Iranian American Democratic organizations.
|
|
G. |
Organize and participate in an
annual national meeting of Iranian American Democrats. |
